I frequently have trouble getting through my lists of books to read because I'm one of those people who relentlessly returns to re-read favorites. This time, it was The Unholy Realm by Dr. Karyn Darnell.
This book is actually the first of the series ‘True Privilege’ which comprises three books.’ In the book it says the story takes place, starting from 1897 through 2009, involving the adventures of Purity’s family line. She is a relentless heroine. Everyone around her gets pulled into a vortex of drama at every turn. Get on the Purity train of endless twists, turns and predicaments only a warrior could endure. She dreams of a better life while working as a maid at Shadow Brook Estate and falls in love with Favor Wisedor heir to the fortune. Daring to hope for more, she was swept away into the dark world of human trafficking and forbidden social protocols. Just when it couldn’t get any worse, she’s transported to the New Earth and encounters Captain of the Lord’s Army. He empowers and gifts her to fight the battles, believing for the victory, no matter how dark it seems.
This is a really fun book. Overall, I liked the story and appreciated the wonderful blend of adventure, mystery, and romance. I was blown away. I found the content of this book to be really interesting. I loved how Purity’s character evolved over the course of the book. I liked the structure. It made sense to me. I like very structured books or books that at least stick to a structure. One of the things I liked about this book is the songs. It was definitely one of the highlights. I want to be entertained and enjoy the characters and that was what this book was—it had a fun story, with characters who are super flawed and a good story that had all kinds of twists and turns. You just can't go wrong with a book like this. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I’m sure it will be great!
