Grateful Grace: Having An Attitude Of Gratitude by Debbie McKiver

The thing I love most about children’s books is their potential to be perfunctory, simple and straightforward. A good children’s book can really capture all of these and stay away from all the drama of adult books. My kids’ elementary school librarian is wonderful and also a book reviewer. Whenever I get to see her, she always has some considerable suggestions for me and for my kids. She is always in the know about new books coming out, too. This book was one of her great recommendations.

Grateful Grace is the story of a little girl who shows gratitude in every situation. She is convinced that there is always something to be grateful for, and the more grateful you are, the happier you will be. This also means more good things will come to you. What I really loved about this book is how brilliant the author, Debbie McKiver is. She has the ability to take a simple, anticipated story and present it in such a way to pique curiosity and encourage conversation. This story makes sense as a stand-alone text. But when combined with the colourful illustrations, it makes it even more interesting for kids. I love how this book encourages both children and adult’s ability to handle real life situations in a way that is honest and sensitive, but without the drama and heaviness of an adult novel. This book does that. The point of the story is to encourage kids to always show gratitude no matter what and that’s a message I can get behind. This is such a fun, hale and hearty concept.

Overall, I found this to be a tongue-in-cheek and creative book with lots to offer. It was a fun story but also discussed real issues and real feelings, which I think is awesome. I think everyone would love it. I thought this book was beautiful. It has a very lovely story and a moral. I highly recommend this book. It's a must read for children and teens, even adults!
